Everything you need to know before heading to the Yakima River Canyon.

CASH Payment only. Cell coverage is very poor in the canyon.
Most guests spend approximately 2½ to 3½ - 4 hours on the river depending on water levels, weather conditions, and how often they stop to relax or swim. Some groups finish faster while others enjoy taking their time. Figure out how long you want the float trip to last. Most groups take out at Roza, Putting in at Lmuma Creek would take about half that time which is available at the group's request.
Strongly recommended. Every guest receives a Coast Guard-approved life jacket, but comfort in the water is important. This is an all ages activity. From toddlers to the elderly.
Reservations are highly recommended. This reservation PAYMENT IS NOT required as we are CASH ONLY. It secures your slot on the shuttle and guarantees your equipment. Walk ups are welcome but especially on weekends and holidays, as trips often sell out.
Children are welcome to float. 12 years or younger are required by the U.S. Coast Guard to wear a life vest. 13+ years or older are not required to wear a life vest.
Absolutely, as we have all the rope and clips to accommodate your group/party float.
Yes. Cooler tubes are available to rent, helping keep drinks and snacks secure during your float. Rental includes a cooler tube and cooler. We offer 3 different sized coolers. Welcome to bring your own cooler as well.
Yes we are Dog-friendly. A cargo tube rental is $15 if your dog wants its own tube.
Park and pay $5 at the credit card kiosk or cash drop box. Any of the America the Beautiful passes are accepted. Discovery Pass won't work. Parking on highway will still require a pass due to access.
No. It’s the same price either way.. But if you have your own gear. Driving here from Ellensburg you will arrive at the launch site first. Umtanum is at 16.5 mile post, Drop Off your gear and party. Drive to the Roza campground shuttle location, pay $5 to park at Roza campground and one party member takes the shuttle back to your personal gear and party. Sorry we don't transport any personal floating equipment as our vans are filled with people.
15 -20 minutes will be plenty of time before your reserved departure time. This will allow you to find and pay $5 for parking, complete waiver and grab/pack cooler from your car with the ice you brought.
Yes! You are on a self-guided float at your own leisure. Feel free to pull your tubes onto gravel bars to swim, sunbathe, or stop at Canyon River Grill for fish 'n chips!
The Yakima River is rated Class I (gentle moving water). The current moves you along effortlessly without requiring constant paddling. Just lean back, rest your head on our tube backrest, and relax!
Yes, BLM vault restrooms are available at Roza Campground (check-in/takeout) as well as at launch sites (Umtanum, Lmuma Creek, Big Pines).
Safety is our #1 priority. If high winds or heavy rain force a river closure, we notify guests immediately via text/phone and allow zero-fee rescheduling to any future date.
Canned beverages and snacks are welcome. NO GLASS CONTAINERS ALLOWED ON THE RIVER. Please consume responsibly, stay hydrated with plenty of water, and pack out all trash in our green mesh bags!
